Balance Program
Our services:
We at MHB are in the business of improving our patient’s quality of life. Our commitment makes us special within the medical/rehabilitative care community. Requisites of Patient Care:
Diagnostic TestingBalance, (vestibular), disorders and dizziness testing require incorporation of state-of-the-art equipment with experienced faculty. We have multiple assessment tools available in our clinics including; infra-red Video-Nystagmography, (VNG); Evoked Potential testing, (EP); Computerized Dynamic Visual Acuity Testing, (CDVAT); Distortion Product Oto-Acoustic Emission testing, (OAE); in conjunction with test equipment crucial for the evaluation of the central and peripheral hearing systems. The goal of diagnostics is to assess the functional quality of the vestibular, (balance), and hearing systems. Equally important is the determination of how well the vestibular system integrates with visual and somatosensory, (sense of touch), systems. This three system integration enables the brain to maintain the body’s postural stability whether in a quiet stance, seated, athletic movement or simple coordinated dance. Posturography is the assessment of ability to maintain upright position during changes to environment, floor/surface stability and body position. It incorporates testing which profile the sensory organization of information used to maintain posture in quiet stable positions to physically stressed situations. This is an important tool to assess which of the three or combination of three sensory systems is a problem. It offers valuable information for design of rehabilitation therapy. RehabilitationThe starting point for successful balance rehabilitation is a program which enables the assessment of capabilities, targets achievable goals then measures outcome against those goals. This requires a multidisciplinary approach. A team approach which is managed by your primary care physician will include any or all of the following professionals; Board Certified Audiologist, Vestibular Rehabilitation, (Physical), Therapist, Neurologist, Otolaryngologists |
